Yoga is a form of mindfulness, a type of meditation. When we are engaged with the body, aware of its position in space, aware of the feelings within it, aware of its abilities and limitations, we let go of the world around us and all bouncing thoughts telling us what we must do and how we must do it better, etc. It allows for some space in our heads which results in more clarity, creativity, and brings balance and perspective to all we do. It is one of the reasons I so love practicing and sharing yoga.
Creating this headspace is valuable not only for the hour or so we choose to practice yoga, but also good to bring into our daily lives. The more space we have, the easier it is to be clear about what really matters to us. And from there we can craft our lives as we choose, rather than feeling we are behind the eight ball, always having to do and achieve to for others, in order prove something to them or to ourselves.
We can do more being. This is where creativity lies. This is where joy resides. Being, not achieving or accomplishing, is why we are here on the planet. And the funny thing is, the more in touch we are with this sense of being-ness, the more we can do/achieve/accomplish with ease and joy.
Sound good? Ok. One way to bring mindfulness into our daily lives is to learn something new. And a great way to do that is to learn together. That’s where Inspired Reading comes in.
We will read together, reading slowly, savoring and sitting with what we read. And we’ll read something that will support us having more time, more space in our heads, allowing for us to live our purpose with more clarity and joy.
There is a wonderful book I read last summer that is all about choosing what we let into our heads on a daily basis. It is called Please Stop Reading the News by Rolf Dobelli.
After reading it, I completely changed my media diet. I haven’t, as he suggests, completely stopped reading the news, but I have massively changed what I read and watch and how much I let in. I am amazed and thrilled with the results. I am calmer, have more time to read the things I want, to get to those books and trainings that are on my list, and to be.
So join me. Let’s read together. Slowly. And talk. Deep meaningful conversations about our lives and how we choose to fill them. You too can find your own media diet that supports the life you want to live, how you want to live it.
To join this book group, please sign up for this newsletter on a paid basis, at the monthly or annual level. That’s less than a cup of coffee a month. We’ll meet online for an hour or so twice a month. Times to be determined, depending on how many sign up. Don’t worry, we (us and the universe) will find a time that works.
It’s about time. It’s about you creating more time and space in your life to live it. And maybe wherever you are in your life’s journey, it’s about time for that.
