First, do you want to receive emails on Wise Words? As a subscriber you will automatically get these short posts about the books we are reading. If you like reading the posts, whether or not you read the book, lovely. Maybe you are curious about a book here, but not going to get around to reading it. If so, read my reflections and enjoy.
If you don’t want to receive these posts but are still interested in my other writing on mindfulness and savoring life, then you can opt out of the Wise Words section. Go to Substack settings and click on my publication. Scroll around until you see the different sections and there you can check or uncheck the sections as you choose.
This is a different kind of book group, meaning you can drop in or out anytime. The wise words within the books I’m choosing can always be beneficial. Kind of like a book that you can open to any page and find something useful? Think of this book group like that.
Here’s how I’m organizing things, for now. (Organization ain’t my strong point, so I may switch to a better way when I figure it out. Feedback and ideas welcome.)
To begin, we’re reading the wise words of Eckhart Tolle in his book, A NEW EARTH. I will call it ANE as I’m writing, and I will reference sections. For example, Chapter One is called The Flowering of Human Consciousness and has seven named sections. When I’m writing about a section I will reference the name but also the section number, like this:
Chapter One - The Flowering of Human Consciousness
1.1 Evocation
1.2 The Purpose of This Book
1.3 Our Inherited Dysfunction
1.4 The Arising New Consciousness
1.5 Spirituality and Religion
1.6 The Urgency of Transformation
1.7 A New Heaven and a New Earth
Soon you will receive my reflections on the first sections, or Chapter One, sections 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3, etc. If you are reading the book, try to read each section before you read my reflections, so you can have your own fresh reaction. If you read my reflections ahead of reading, that’s also okay, because, well, you did that and now you can decide if you want to do it that way or the other way in the future.
In other words, you can’t go wrong here. I have read this book two or three times already, and yet it always has a way of hitting me, resonating in a new way. So really, just do what you want, what works for you. Trust your inner wisdom. シ And don’t beat yourself up for not reading or whatever else. That’s just your ego (which we’ll get to in depth in this book!) trying to wreak havoc with you. But we won’t have that…cause we’re learning to be kind to ourselves and accessing our wisdom…yeah, you get the idea.
That’s enough housekeeping for now. Feeling a bit excited, trepidatious, so must be good. I hope so…
